Jason Mraz brings “Good Vibes” to the Greater Cleveland Food Bank!

Jason Mraz and the Good Vibes Tribe were in Cleveland last week on their second night of the Good Vibes Tour.  Before the show, however, they made a stop at the Greater Cleveland Food Bank to help volunteer and to offer some visibility to this amazing organization.

According to Mraz, “What’s the point of spreading good vibes if we’re not actually out in the community spreading good vibes?”  He also said that he would rather be of service than just standing around doing autographs.   “I could just do a meet and greet, but I would rather it mean something.”  To do this, he reaches out to the local promoters and radio stations to find out what organization they are already working with to see how they might offer some hands, some time, some support, and some visibility.

When asked why he felt this was important, Mraz stated, “If I didn’t do that, I would just be a musician who’s taking… like, you pull into town, you smile and wave, and you take.  You take tickets and you leave.  So this is a way for us to hopefully leave a trail of goodness on our tour path and I think it also is a way for fans to find out what’s actually happening in their community because they’re always asking us, ‘How can I be a better person?’”

Q104 Cleveland hosted a radio contest for fans.  10 contest winners along with their guests joined Q104’s The Jeremiah show’s Jeremiah, Morgan, and Jack along with Mraz to volunteer at the Cleveland Food Bank.  Joining Jason Mraz to help out were some other members of the Good Vibes Tour band including; Toca Rivera (percussion and vocals), Mona Tavakoli (drums), and Eric Hinojosa (keyboard).

The event began with an introduction from President and CEO of the Cleveland Food Bank, Kristin Warzocha.  Mraz told Warzocha that the Cleveland Food Bank was his first experience volunteering at a food bank.  She explained in her introduction that hundreds of volunteers are needed daily to help the facility run.  She expressed her gratitude that they were able to join them and the local media in hopes that it might help inspire others to volunteer and give some lasting power for the hungry in our community.

After the introduction, came a tour of the 120,000 square ft. facility that helps provide about 55 million meals a year to around 300,000 people in Northeast Ohio who struggle to get nutritious meals on the table.

Following the tour, all the volunteers got right to work in the repacking room busily sorting and repacking donated non-perishable food to be distributed to local food pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters.  Many of the volunteers that day were first-time volunteers who expressed that before that event, they didn’t realize how fun and easy volunteering can be.

You can find out for yourself!  Almost anyone can volunteer at the Greater Cleveland Food Bank and hundreds of volunteers are needed every day, all year around!  Even the kiddos can play a major role in helping the hungry of Northeast Ohio with their volunteer efforts!

Volunteers aged 12-15 can volunteer with an adult.  Volunteers 16 and older can volunteer unaccompanied by an adult.  And what about younger volunteers?  They can join in on the Greater Cleveland Food Bank’s Family Night!  Families with children ages 6-11 can help out in the repack room on the second Thursday and the third Monday of each month from 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM.
